U.S. Naval Academy

Whether approaching by land or by sea, the beauty of the United States Naval Academy (USNA) warmly welcomes visitors to the city of Annapolis with its stunning campus, defining the Annapolis skyline. Established in 1845, this historical institution turns young men and women into brave officers serving our country in both the Navy and the Marines.


Many unique sites and events related to the Naval Academy are well worth exploring. A campus tour will provide much history and can be organized through the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center. Be sure to check out the unique gift shop while you are there, and if you time it correctly, you can see the midshipmen's Noon Formation to give you an authentic taste of life as a midshipman. If you prefer, do a self-guided academy tour at your own pace. The US Naval Academy Museum is a beautiful display of artifacts, and the Naval Academy Chapel is a sight to behold with its impressive dome and colorful stained-glass windows. Underneath the chapel, you will find the crypt of naval hero John Paul Jones, lauded as the Father of the US Navy.

The U.S. Naval Academy Museum welcomes more than 100,000 visitors annually from all over the world. Located in Preble Hall on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy, the Museum offers two floors of exhibits about the history of seapower, the development of the U.S. Navy, and the role of the U.S. Naval Academy in producing officers capable of leading America's sailors and marines.


Our displays combine historical artifacts with video and audio technology to bring to life the stories of the men and women who have served their country at sea. Whether you are a casual visitor, a student of naval history, or a member of the Brigade of Midshipmen, the Museum stands ready to make your visit a memorable one.

Annapolis Historic District

Historic downtown Annapolis is a vibrant, thriving 21st-century neighborhood with 18th-century charm. A walk down Main Street puts you in touch with four centuries of architecture lovingly preserved. There's a contagious energy in the air here that some call addictive. Look in any direction and you'll find something to pique your imagination - eye catchers including the Chesapeake Bay, Midshipmen in dress whites, historic landmarks, shops, and restaurants of every size and description. And that's just for starters! Located between Church Circle and City Dock, Main Street can’t be missed with its ever-busy sidewalks, views of the Annapolis Harbor, and bustling shops.


Main Street is as assortment of everything that Annapolis has to offer, and a great point to start a day in town. Nightlife, dining, art, and shopping take center stage on Main Street. Tucked away on this historic street are dozens of restaurants, shops, bars and art galleries, offering shoppers plenty of options to choose from no matter what you’re looking for. Visitors will also find a handful of cafés, ice cream parlors, a bookstore, and souvenir shops.

Maryland State House

The State House is open to the public every day from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., except Christmas and New Years Day. To help make your visit to the Maryland State House more enjoyable, and to provide you with an understanding of its rich and historic past, self-guided tour information is available in the Office of Interpretation on the first floor. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm. The Office of Interpretation is a program of the Maryland State Archives. Specialized curatorial tours of the building and its artwork can be arranged by appointment by calling 410.260.6445. A number of private tour operators also provide tours of Annapolis and the State House. Security Requirements Please note that security measures are in place at the State House and other state buildings in the Annapolis complex. Picture IDs are required for entrance and metal detectors are in operation.

William Paca House & Garden

The William Paca House & Garden is a National Historic Landmark, restored to its colonial-era splendor by Historic Annapolis, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Annapolis. Take some time to experience the 18th century life of lawyer, and signer of the Declaration of Independence, William Paca, as you browse through his breathtaking home.


The House is open for docent-led tours for individuals and groups. Tours take place hourly on the half-hour, last approximately 45 to 50 minutes, and encompass two floors of 18th-century history. You tour includes a walk through the parlor, historic kitchen, grand foyer and many bedrooms, while hearing stories of those who lived and labored in this home. Admission for the guided tour includes a self-guided viewing of the 2-acre pleasure garden and the new exhibit, We Hold These Truths: Maryland's Signers and the Declaration of Independence.


The William Paca Garden can also be rented out by those seeking an historic setting for events such as weddings, meetings, and reunions.

60 Minute Historic Annapolis Tour

Our 60 minute tours start and end at the Annapolis Visitor's Center, located at 26 West St.


There are about 1300 buildings in Annapolis at least a century old, representing 15 different architectural styles. This tour focuses on the largest and the oldest of those 1300 buildings, with special attention on the Georgian style --harmonious and balanced--named for the Kings George who ruled Britain much of the 18th century. Annapolis has the highest concentration of Georgian buildings in America.


Bring your camera for the one stop at the Severn River Overlook for sweeping views of the Naval Academy and Maryland's World War II Memorial.


FARES

The fare for adults is $18; Active Military and children aged 4-13 are $9, children 3 and under ride for free.


Departure Times

Tours depart April through October. Please check our online availbility as tours can sometimes be cancelled due to special events in Annapolis.


RESERVATIONS / TICKETS

Tickets are available ON-LINE up through the day before your tour. Remaining seats are available on a same-day, first come, walk-in basis. Sign up on the reservation lists for the tour of your choice to hold your seat. The fare will be collcted by your tour guide on the trolley. The tour guide can accept cash, checks and travelers checks. There is an ATM nearby.

As the State of Maryland’s official museum of African American heritage, the Banneker-Douglass Museum serves to document, to interpret, and to promote African American history and culture (particularly in Maryland) through exhibitions, programs, and projects in order to improve the understanding and appreciation of America’s rich cultural diversity for all.


The Banneker-Douglass Museum is operated by the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture.

Historic St. Michael's

The historic town of St Michaels dates back to the mid-1600s when it served as a trading post for area tobacco farmers and trappers.


Your time in St. Michaels can be filled with a variety of activities from fishing, boating, sailing, historical or cocktail cruises, shopping, kayaking, biking or just relaxing around a pool with a good book. Our town is hip, historic, and very laid back. This is also a very pet-friendly town as we love our animals.


We have wonderful museums on the history of our town, the Chesapeake Bay and a new Classic Motor Museum. Our Art Galleries and Antique Shops are not to be missed.


Looking for a little exercise join one of our group runs or rent a paddle board or kayak and experience the beauty on our beautiful creeks and rivers.


We even have a self guided historical house walking tour under Maps and Directions where you will also fine maps for kayaking and biking trails. There are so many things to do, it is hard to list, but what we find most important is the activity of relaxation. As soon as you drive across the bridge, you start to feel it and by the time you are in St. Michaels, the relaxation is starting to take place.
